"The Tales Are True", a solo show by Marie Connole
Eight BAR and Restaurant, Dock Rd, Galway. Dec 13th- Jan 8th 2012
"The Tales are True" manipulates the familiar symbols and muted tones of folktales, old encyclopaedias and children’s science books in order to challenge these transgressions. It poses questions about the desire for revelation in narrative storytelling.
Connole's process of gathering, sifting, cutting and connecting, reveals a continuous evolution of knowledge; the tales which influence her practise take on a new significance, as commonplace archetypes are de-constructed.

A reading of 'The Midnight Court' takes place in An Teach Bia, Main Street Ennistymon at 8pm on Saturday 6th of August as part of The Power of Local Arts Festival. This participatory project by Collins and Connole is based on the famous 18th century Clare poem written by Brian Merriman.
Enter the fairy court as a judge presides over a case where the sexes battle it out; airing their opinions and complaints about marriage and relationships.
Maeve Collins and Marie Connole are members of Ground Up Artists Collective (www.groundupartists.com) which supports, promotes and advocates for rural
based art projects and events which engage with local communities. The Power of Local is organised by Ennistymon Courthouse Gallery and will take place from 4th to 7th August.
