'As Above, So Below' explores various tales from my home place by the Cliffs of Moher on the west coast of Ireland.
Of particular focus is the tale of a drowned village in Liscannor Bay, on the coast of Clare. The mythical Cill Stíopháin is said to become visible for one day every seven years. The story shares striking parallels with the fabled islands of Atlantis and Hy-Brasil.
The knowledge inherent in the folklore and customs from this beautiful area is re-considered through the lens of memory, personal narrative and history.
Weaving sacred iconography and archetypal symbols in delicate watercolours and stark oil paintings, the series re-imagines a deeply personal and contemporary legacy.
Due to public interest the Irish Arts Center has extended the exhibition 'As Above, So Below' to 16th June 2017.
